Developer

Sony Santa Monica is a first party developer for Sony, and besides God of War they made some pretty awesome titles. They are responsible for Twisted Metal, The Unfinished Swan, Journey, PixelJunk Shooter, and many more!

E3 2016

At E3 2016 Sony showcased a gameplay video for their next God of War game for the PS4. In the demo we saw, an older Kratos was shown off raising a son. His wife was nowhere to be seen, and the way Kratos spoke seemed to imply she was dead.

Setting

God of War is set in ancient Scandinavia, before the age of the Vikings. Kratos and a boy of unknown name are depicted in early materials hunting in a forest. The region is sparsely populated, unfriendly, and haunted by trolls, a dragon, and ancient monsters.
God of War 3's snowy tundra and forests are presented without interruption from Kratos perspective (in third person).

Voice Acting

Revealed a few days after it's first showing, we learned that Kratos will no longer be voiced by TC Carson, who has voiced him up until this point. Instead he is being voiced by Christopher Judge, an actor well known for his time on Stargate SG-1, where he played Teal'c.

COMBAT

Combat seems to be similar to the older titles, but more refined than the previous games, which often boiled down to mashing the same combo over and over. Kratos was seen wielding a two handed axe, while his son uses a bow and arrow. Stuns, ranged attacks, and power moves were all demonstrated, as well as the classic God of War finisher moves, which in the demo had a slightly unusual end as Kratos' own son shoots him on accident with the bow.

The camera has been significantly adjusted from pervious God of War games, brought in much closer behind Kratos, but the cinematic, fast combat appears very fluid and easy to navigate.
Kratos' signature Spartan Rage is still in effect, altered both by actions in battle and by interactions with the boy.

STORY

The story is going to revolve around an older, wisened Kratos has he tried to deal with his past, while also raising his only son. It's clear he still struggles with his own inner anger, but at times during the demo we see that his son actually serves to temper his anger.

We have seen that the game will feature more RPG style mechanics. Kratos can come across armor and items in the world, and use them to create new gear for himself.
In addition to the RPG mechanics, there are no load times in this game. Once you are in the game, nothing will fade to black or take moment to load. Here's a quote from IGN's Senior Editor, Marty Sliva:
