We use tools very often, loose the bolts, tighten the screws, or make something repaired. However, we always store these tools in drawer or somewhere without conspicuousness, because most of them are so heavy, bulky, and ugly!! You don’t want to carry them in your bag or pocket, not to mention showing off with others.
Most of the time, we just happen to tighten the bolts of our bike, computer, appliance, or household gadgets that won’t come loose, we'll expect to have a dapper one on hand. The optimized tool we desire is lightweight, compact, and portable; it’s even better to support various sizes of bolts & screws underlying the modular design with replaceable bits.
Pop-A-Point Design
But carrying numerous bits is another trouble. Like some other replaceable-bits screwdrivers you saw at Home Depot, there might be an additional case required for bits packaging. So we hope to design an "All-in-One" solution; what's more, we aim to redefine and make your daily tools not only handy but also beauteous, nothing you need to hide in any dress or any occasion.
Inspired by “Pop-A-Point” rainbow pen & mechanical pencil (do you remember owning and playing this funny pen as kids?), we found a smart way to collect and swap bits more easily & flexibly. With similar methods of replacing refills, you’ll simply insert and interchange demanding bits into the pen, all are compactly organized inside that you’ll never worry to lose any one at all ~ bravo!

mininch Tool Pen is housing by solid aluminum. Each pen comes with 6 bits, and each bit is layered over the next in tailor-made hexagon barrel. There are 13 most popular types of bits you choose, including Slotted (Flat), Phillips, Hexagon (Hex), and Star; all are constructed from high-quality, milled S45C carbon steel. Design & Prototype
The concept of Tool Pen is based on a winner of 2012 Red Dot Design Concept Award, originally contributed by our designer Hao-Siang Min & his partner Chun-Chi Lin. We obviously loved this idea, and hoped enabling this idea to come true. This project was formally kicked off last year, but we found the mechanical design of Pop-A-Point operation was a big challenge, thus we paid many efforts on running lots of experiments, material testing, features add-on or adjustments, design & re-design over the past eight months.
On the other hand, we also suffered from looking for a willing manufacturing partner to support this customized-design product. Fortunately, we have accessed to a high-quality & 30-year-experience manufacturer of wide-range screwdrivers in Taiwan, and it helped us study & develop some samples for verification. All our efforts have finally made this project happen, and the end result of prototype truly surpassed our expectation. This Tool Pen works very smoothly and showcases a brilliant shape!
Execution Plan
Now everything is almost ready, but we need your help to create the first-run production. Your pledges will enable us to make tooling, purchase materials, and overcome the MOQ hurdle of machine process. Therefore, we can successfully complete the initial production run, and put this fantastic Tool Pen in your hand.
If we’re able to find sufficient funds, we'll conclude with the final design soon and start production next month, and we aim to ship out your rewards by October, 2014.

The naming of mininch is derived from “mini-inch” (the same pronunciation), it simply indicates our design mindset and goal, making all products perfectly exquisite & sophisticated in every inch, and every detail. Furthermore, a single “i” in the middle is also representing the spirit of innovation, improvement, and intelligence; to imbue these elements into our design for creating a better life!
Risks and challengesLearn about accountability on Kickstarter
Every project will be involved its own risk, fortunately, our key team members have some experiences in launching projects on Kickstarter before. They have created a proven track record of delivering on-time and making backers satisfied, we'll learn and try our best to solidify the overall project management.
However, there's no project will be getting 100% smoothly and free of risk. To minimize these risks, we have invested much in prototype building and testing before our project launch, and we plan to start the tooling & pilot-run sampling immediately once project is reaching its funding goal (even if it's not yet closed). Moreover, our OEM partner in Taiwan has 30-years experiences in manufacturing tools, we have high confidence to overcome all production difficulties and keep our commitment with their full support.
