AMD releases Catalyst Omega driver that supports monitors 5K

Criticized in the past for its quality drivers, AMD revealed on Friday (5) a complete overhaul of your graphic software. Named as Catalyst Omega, the novelty brings features like Virtual technologies 4K Super Resolution and Detail Enhancement 2, which promise to provide a more accurate visual quality to GPUs and APUs produced by the company.

Result of months of work, the driver is considered by the company as a "special edition" and is one of the biggest changes already implemented in the software. According to AMD, the new offers performance that is up to 19% higher in high-performance graphics cards and up to 29% higher in APUs when compared to what was possible in version 14:11:12 Catalyst.

In addition to adding new features, the update addresses bugs, improves support for Crossfire system and includes support for Freesync technology in current games and future releases. Among the titles immediately benefited by the driver are Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, BioShock Infinite and Metro Redux, among others.

Virtual Super Resolution

One of the main innovations introduced by AMD in the update is the Virtual Super Resolution system, which acts similarly to NVIDIA DSR solution. In practice, the technology allows you to make the downgrade in 4K images to play on monitors with 1080p resolution.

As a result, the player can enjoy titles with more detailed textures, more rounded edges and better image quality. Furthermore, the solution emulates the results of Technology Super sampling anti-aliasing (WWYY) in adaptations of islands that do not have native support for it. The feature can be accessed in any way from the Catalyst Control Center.

Support 5K monitors

AMD also added support for monitors with incredible resolution 5K (5120x2880 pixels), such as Dell UP2715K. In addition, the company also ensured that all games compatible with their latest hardware - whether past or present - can now be used by the Freesync solution that promises to eliminate unwanted screen tearing effect.

To complete the Catalyst Omega brings the technology Detail Enhancement 2, which enhances the details of low-resolution videos in order to make them appear to have the quality 1080p. For this, the novelty uses the original source and the process again in order to improve its frequency response.

According to the TechSpot site, the update improves performance in some titles, but do not freak notable differences in games like Watch Dogs, Battlefield 4, Sleeping Dogs and Crysis 3. AMD promises to launch the driver through its official website even on Friday , which should allow consumers to test on their own improvements offered by him.
