Positive bet on cheaper smartphones

Positivo Informática expects to maintain in 2015 the pace of investment this year and while contributes resources in manufacturing smartphones in Brazil, expects the decline in PC sales is understated, said company president Hélio Rotenberg, in an interview with Broadcast, service news in real time the State Agency.

In 2014, Positivo Informática invested at the beginning of own production of smartphones in its Curitiba plant. According to Rotenberg, the next step could be to make improvements in the manufacturing plant to permit the production of devices with embedded 4G.

The company's challenge is to balance two markets with opposing tendencies. Sales of notebooks have been falling. In the nine months of 2014, the decline was 28.7% compared to the same period last year. Meanwhile, tablets grew 1.1% and the increase was more than 500% in smartphones. "What the research institutes are saying is that the PCs stop falling next year. And we expect significant growth in phones," says Rotenberg.

The company also likes to say that leads the PC market in Brazil. While admitting that for a few months last he lost the post to Chinese Lenovo, Positivo says remains the largest seller of computers in Brazil for ten years. According to the company, its market share in the third quarter of this year reached 16.6%, and 17.1% in notebooks and 15.6% in desktops. The data take into account IDC measurements.

The strategy of betting on lower prices of computers than the market average has also been used for tablets and smartphones. Asked about the onslaught of global giants in these businesses, Rotenberg highlights the company's experience in negotiations with retailers, businesses and governments as an advantage. "The entry of multinationals in our markets happened from 2009, All want to occupy all price ranges. And it (the input market) is no longer a privilege our few years ago."

Already appreciated dollar tends to weigh on the company's costs. The executive argues that these high will continue to be passed on to final prices. "There have been transfers in October and there will be new," he said. The information is the newspaper O Estado de S. Paulo.
